Badge Ideas
-You know what is takes : Never let the empire juice reset with 15k still available for a whole game that you win. i.e. you attack at least once every 30 minutes.
-Steamroller: Win a game in less than 12 hours(or appropriate time frame).
-Tanks you for the win: Win a game just using tanks and/or just building tanks.
-Two feet and a rifle: Win a game just using troops and/or just building troops.
-Late starter: Join a game with more than 50% of the counties conquered already and win.
I think the reward for winning a game should be around 10k. If there is not a big enough reward there is no incentive for people to start and finish a game.
Tell me what you think. :)
Great ideas. I really need to add more badges and I'm always open to ideas for new ones.
Steamroller sounds great, I'm going to add that. For your tanks and troop badges, should it detect the percentages of each at the end of the game and give a badge based on that? I like Late Starter (Late Bloomer?), but that'll take a bit to do; I'll have to think about it.
Yeah, I definitely need to add a winning reward, although I think it should be higher. 25k?
Edit: should mention that if I add the bonus, I'd go through and give everyone that bonus retroactively for the games you've won.
What do you think of friend-related badges? A badge for having 25, 50 and 100 friends. I suck at coming up with clever names, but cantwin is good at it. Ideas?
I now have it set to give 25k XP to the winner. Sound good?

Hey Admin,
Love the game, but I have a couple pieces of feedback
1) I would let people attack and move troops without the intermediary screens by clicking from Country A to Country B. Then I'd have an interstitial dialog box pop up and ask them for the same information (what troops to move over, etc). Chances are you've already planned this but I just wanted to restate it.
2) Troops (and tanks) should cost more per troop when upgraded. They are something like 3X better and cost the same, for a low upgrade cost of $3m. It basically makes this tech a requirement and if you don't have it, you will get owned until you do. The upgraded troops should still be a value though (say, 3X the combat effectiveness for 2X the per-unit cost)
3) The speed boost in production for troops is too extreme at third level. I'd have it go 1st Tier (1.5sec/troop), 2nd Tier (1sec/troop), 3rd Tier (0.5sec/troop). Right now 0.1sec/troop makes it really easy for me to take over huge chunks of the map in an hour or two
4) Neutral countries should have default troop counts that you can whittle away at. It's annoying that I have to stack everyone together just to take a big country (edit: this is true actually, I think I just wasn't paying attention)
5) Satellite is a single $1.75m upgrade that gives you *the entire map*. Information is key in war games, so this is basically broken. My suggestion would be to do the following:
- With no upgrade, you can't see enemy troop count at all
- With "Radar" upgrade, you can see enemy troop count in territories adjacent to your own [Cost: $1.5M]
- With "Spy Plane" upgrade, you can see enemy troop count 2 territories away from your own [Cost: $2.5M, prereq Radar]
- With "Satellite" upgrade, you can see all troop counts worldwide [Cost: $5M, prereq Spy Plane]
Overall I love the game already and I'm going to be playing it a lot (I love browser based strategy games). Great progress so far, and I'm looking forward to more updates soon :). You're always welcome to ping me for feedback at davidtyleryork@gmail.com
1) I agree. My plan is to have a popup box with the same info, so you don't have to leave the page. When building the site, my goal was to get everything working and stable, then go back in and improve the UI.
2) That was the original idea. However, a problem I encountered was that it would make more sense to recruit a large army of basic troops, then just upgrade them to avoid paying the higher cost per unit. The way to remedy this would either be to keep track of the different unit levels (a giant mess on the backend and UI), or keep it simple and keep it unified. You do bring up a good point about the cost. I've increased the upgrade costs a bit.
3) I disagree. The final set of upgrades (fastest, most powerful units) should be attainable late in the game to move things quicker for the powerful players.
5) As a matter of fact, redoing the satellite upgrade is next on my list :) I was thinking of doing Satellite Upgrade 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. But I think I like your layout, of them being separate upgrades, but as prerequisites a bit better. Although, I think it can go a step further.
What about this:
- Radar: Can view estimations of enemy units, unless enemy has a shield. For example (Troops: 4-6k, Tanks: 100-1k). $1m.
- Satellites: Can view exact figures, unless the enemy country has a shield. $3m.
- Satellites 2.0: Can view exact figures, even through shields, and see another piece of info, like how much everyone makes per hour.
Thanks for taking the time to write out all your ideas. I really do appreciate it!

For the tank and troop badges, what ever is more easy for you to figure out the programing. Yeah feel free to change the names I was just throwing out some ideas.
25k is really good I was being conservative with my figure.
You could do some friend badges, but with those it usually turns into a friend request spam. I would suggest only 10-20 friends if you do a badge for that.
Also that gives my a idea for a badge
-Who need enemies: Play a full game with people who are on your friends list
I've created a second copy of the game just for me to play. I'm going to go through and do a lot of things
These badge ideas are great and I'm going to work really hard to add them. The problems I might encounter is if a badge is feasible to add and if I'm able to actually test their conditions.
Keep the badge ideas coming.

I've an idea but it's a lot of work so you might not like it much!
I'd like to see more complex research options.
For example, you could start off with just basic tanks, if you want to make a WWII feeling then you can call them Panzer I, maybe Matilda's or whatever (if you want more complexity then when you choose your government type that would lock you in to German, British, American or Russian names).
You can then choose to research a different tank upgrade, maybe go for medium tanks like Panthers or T26s or even heavy tanks like King Tiger, Elefant etc, all with graphics to match.
Each upgrade would cost and give better tanks but they might take longer to build and cost more etc.
Have fun with that one :-)
Interesting idea. Would certainly add some depth do the game. So you choose the 'line' you follow of unit upgrades?

Here I come with my suggestions:
First, maybe change the country setup a little bit: Maybe you could merge some of the smaller countries and split some of the larger countries into territories, you know, kinda like in Empire Earth? So, for example, you could split Russia into smaller parts, like Siberia, West Russia, East Russia (maybe you can come up with better names lol) and merge the Central American states, like Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, etc., and just call it Central America. I feel like that would make invading the world maybe a little less tedious.
Second, maybe add a rule that if somebody owns more than 50% of the world for more than a specific time period (maybe two days?), one'll win the game automatically.

I take that the badges are account based. It would add another layer to have a seperate a "Rewards" ( say maybe "Ribbons", which is what Bf3 calls them) which are game based.
In the end, I think its nice to have some games rushed and other tactically won over a longer period of time. Having so called "Ribbons" which are game based will motivate the player to pick a certain style. Ribbons will have (small?) rewards if achieved and will be lost upon finishing a game. Its basically something you can do over and over again, perfecting your strategy as you go.
A game like League of Legends is built on the same idea, and thats a great game.
Badges are account and game based, because I wanted to avoid any confusion between those. I have more badges I'm going to be adding that are entirely game based.
Although, I love how bf3 tells me things like "You have the most mcom defenses" or whatever. It'd take a while to set up a record system for the game to analyze, but that would be cool to have after you finish a game. I'll add it to my list to look into.

Not sure if it's a mistake or on purpose, but if you're moving troops from one country to another you have to move at least 1 tank if you have them. But if you only have one tank in a country, you can't move it out.

Maybe I don't understand. What do you mean by 'per game basis'?

Long story. Basically a jquery thing where the UI screws up if there's a 0 there.

jQuery can be a bitch bro :P
by per game basis I mean... Say there are ribbons like:
- BOOM: user 5 napalm bombs
- Top notch: Conquer 80% of the total countries
These ribbons, you will receive in the game and they may carry some sort of rewards. You can either set it up so that they can be regained next game. Show off the totals in the players profile and it might just be real fun ^^

Also if it would be possible to send messages to multiple people or to have some kind of ongoing chat so that I can trash talk my friends while we play and all that good stuff, well that would just be the cats meow
It just so happens that a game wall is coming next. I'm going to merge the battle logs with a public chat. Meow.
